What a busy day. I had planned to complete a pair of Keishi pearl earrings as my 30 Days of Creativity project. Turns out if I want to stay true to my design, they are going to be more difficult to assemble than I thought. I hope to have them later this week.
In the meantime, here is the second project I worked on tonight – a ridiculously long garnet pendant. It ended up being five inches long. I wasn’t sure if this would “work” but it looks pretty good on.
The focal point of the pendant s is soldered circle that was hammered flat. It is surrounded by a variety of wire wrapped shapes of garnet. I oxidized the piece and hand buffed it to a satin finish.
I like this more than I thoughtI would. In hindsight, the main reason I don’t like it is it isn’t the Keishi pearl earrings. Sometimes I need to remember the immortal words of the Man in Black in The Princess Bride, “Get used to disappointment.” (more…)
It’s a little past midnight as I’m writing this. Finished my piece by midnight so I’m still counting this one as in under the wire. Tonight, I decided to raid the scrap jar again. I found a piece of sterling silver tube and decided to try making a pendant with it. I soldered two wire circles to the tube. It took a bit longer than I thought because I had to solder them three times before I had them lined up the way they were in my head. I added some small faceted apatite slabs. I threaded a sterling silver chain through the tube and finished it off with a spring ring clasp.
According to Emily Gems, apatite is an inspirational stone that helps to aid communication and self-expression. It is thought to encourage extroversion, dissolve alienation, draw negativity from oneself, clear confusion, and stimulate creativity and intellect. (more…)
