Today, I did a kumihimo weave of prehnite beads topped off with sterling silver textured cones. I accented it with piece of wire wrapped jade, a prehnite nugget and a faceted rock crystal quartz nugget. Making asymmetrical bracelets can be a bit challenging. I need to wear this one to see how if it feels.
Today I made a pair wire wrapped briolette earrings. The briolettes are suspended on sterling silver chains. I forged the earwires. Kind of beachy colors.
I think this stone is a jasper but I’m not sure. I bezel set it in copper and suspended it from wire wrapped smoky quartz cubes with a few amazonite accents. This necklace was made this out of materials that have been sitting around for a long, long time. I think I bought the cabochon more than 10 years ago at a rock show! I’m glad it finally has a home.
And on the eleventh day, faceted peacock pearls on lightly sanded abstract rings.
Today’s 30 Days of Creativity project Dot Dash Dot Dot Dash Earrings. I forged the earring hoops and wrapped them with tiny hematite round and tube beads. It was the first time I had tried this sort of wrap. I’m happy with them!
Oh my gosh, almost a third of the way through! Today, I made a pair of labradorite cluster earrings using some drilled teardrop stones. Labradorite is a fabulous neutral stone with a little dash of magic. The magic is known in the trade as labradorescence (as if I’m “in the trade”). It is a metallic, almost rainbow, reflection that appears when light strikes a stone at the right angle. You might also hear this referred to as play of color. Generally, play of color is used to describe the quality of an opal. Since it means flashes of color that change with the angle of observation, I suppose it’s fair to apply the term to labradorite.
Can you tell I have a gemstone book now? However you define it, it’s a beautiful stone, especially gorgeous in the sunlight. (more…)
